Frequently Asked Questions & Edge Cases

1. Device Not Showing Up During Pairing

If Device B cannot discover Device A during pairing:

• Check Network Status: Ensure both devices have active internet access or share the same Wi-Fi network.
• Manual Pairing Code: If mDNS local discovery is disabled by your Wi-Fi router, click Manual Code Entry on Device B and type the 6-digit code displayed on Device A.
• VPN Connections: If you are connected to a corporate VPN (such as Cisco AnyConnect or Tailscale), local mDNS broadcasts may be isolated. Qlip will automatically switch to Relay E2EE mode to complete pairing over your VPN connection.

2. macOS: “Qlip needs Accessibility permissions”

On macOS, operating system security requires apps to request Accessibility permissions in order to monitor copy events (Cmd+C).

How to Fix:

1. Open System Settings on your Mac.
2. Navigate to Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
3. Toggle the switch next to Qlip to ON.
4. If Qlip is already enabled, toggle it OFF and back ON, then restart Qlip.

3. Android: Background Clipboard Access & Battery Saver Limits

Android 10+ restricts background apps from reading the system clipboard unless the app is in the foreground or has an active background service.

How to Fix:

1. Open Android Settings > Apps > Qlip.
2. Tap Battery and set the restriction to Unrestricted (or “Don’t Optimize”).
3. Enable Background Sync Notification inside Qlip Settings to keep the low-power background service active.

4. Why is Sync Slow on My Corporate Network?

If sync latency exceeds 200ms on a corporate network:

• Corporate firewalls often block UDP port 49152 or suppress mDNS broadcasts (_qlip._tcp.local).
• When local subnets block UDP/mDNS, Qlip automatically routes packets over secure HTTPS/WebSocket relays.
• To enable ultra-fast 10ms LAN direct sync, ask your IT administrator to allow mDNS multicast traffic on your local VLAN.

5. Is My Clipboard Data Stored on Qlip Servers?

No. Qlip uses Zero-Knowledge End-to-End Encryption (E2EE).

• Encrypted payloads are routed directly over local sockets or ephemeral relay nodes.
• Relay nodes hold zero state and discard packets immediately upon delivery.
• Your master decryption key is stored strictly inside your local device’s hardware Secure Enclave / Keychain.
